About
OpenCPN is a free chart-plotter and marine GPS navigation program for Windows, macOS, Linux, Raspberry Pi, and Android. It is built to be used underway: load charts, plot a route, and follow the vessel's position from a laptop or single-board computer at the helm.
It reads common chart sets, talks to GPS and instrument feeds, and extends through a plugin catalog that covers weather, AIS, and celestial navigation. For commercial bridges it is not a type-approved ECDIS, but it is the default open-source plotter for workboats, fishing vessels, and yachts that want a self-hosted alternative to proprietary chart apps.
