About
pyais is a Python library for reading and writing Automatic Identification System messages. It decodes the NMEA sentences ships and coastal receivers emit, and it can encode messages back into the same formats when you are building a simulator, a feed, or a test harness.
It is a library, not a tracking website. Developers use it inside vessel-tracking pipelines, research notebooks, and onboard tools that need AIS without depending on a commercial data vendor. There is no hosted map and no fleet dashboard — you bring the stream.
